AGM Foursomes Competition Tees Off the Day in Style
Before members turned their attention to the formal business of the AGM, the day began in the best possible fashion — with golf! The AGM Foursomes Competition took place in the morning, setting a positive and lively tone for the day ahead.
Pairs from across the county took part in the much-loved event, which was played in the traditional foursomes format. As always, the competition was a brilliant mix of friendly rivalry, solid teamwork, and some excellent golf.
Taking top honours were Peter Banfield & Kevin Williams (Triangle Artisans Golf Club/Piltdown), who produced a strong and consistent round to secure victory. Runners-up Benjamin Clarke & Roy Stephenson (Willingdon/Cooden Beach Golf Club) were close behind in a tightly contested leaderboard, and all competitors should be congratulated for contributing to such an enjoyable morning.
Our thanks go to East Brighton Golf Club for providing superb hospitality and a course in excellent condition. It was a fitting start to a day that celebrated everything that makes Sussex County Golf special.

Peter Oliver Receives Tony Jones Putter for Outstanding Contribution
Sussex County Golf was proud to present the 2025 Tony Jones Putter to outgoing Finance Director Peter Oliver at its recent AGM. The award recognises individuals who have made a significant and lasting impact on the county, and this year’s decision — made jointly by the President and County Secretary — was unanimous.
Peter joined the county committee in 2018, having been recommended by his home club, Sweetwoods, where he served for many years as Handicap Secretary. Since then, he has played a vital role in modernising financial processes, improving governance, and supporting HR and legal matters, while also contributing across a wide range of county activities, from course rating to event support.
Although Peter steps down from his Finance Director role, he will remain involved on a short-term, project-focused basis while he finalises his move to Harrogate to be closer to his children. He has already made links with Yorkshire County Golf, where he is sure to continue making a valuable contribution.
Sussex County Golf is deeply grateful for Peter’s dedication, professionalism, and support over the years, and congratulates him on this well-deserved recognition.
