The Wellesley Scratch Knockout Finals took place at Haywards Heath Golf Club on a warm, sunny day, with only a light breeze in the morning — perfect conditions for high-quality golf. The event featured both the Trophy and Plate finals, each contested between two teams in a classic match-play format. The morning saw four tightly fought foursomes matches per final, followed by eight afternoon singles, making for a full day of competitive and spirited golf. With plenty of support around the course and a great atmosphere throughout, it was a fantastic finale to this year’s competition with plenty of support from across the county.
The final results of the matches can be seen below:
SUSSEX WELLESLEY SCRATCH KNOCKOUT TROPHY
East Sussex National, last year’s Plate winners, stepped up to the Trophy Final this year and continued their impressive run with a dominant performance against East Brighton. They built an early lead with a 3–1 win in the morning foursomes, before closing out the match with a strong showing in the singles, taking the afternoon 5.5–2.5 to secure an 8.5–3.5 overall victory as seen on the left below with the runners up East Brighton on the right.
SUSSEX WELLESLEY SCRATCH KNOCKOUT PLATE
In the Plate Final, The Dyke took on Highwoods in what turned out to be a tightly contested match that went right down to the wire. With the morning foursomes ending evenly at 2–2, everything was left to play for in the afternoon singles. The match came down to the final hole, with The Dyke just 1 up — a lead they held onto to clinch a hard-fought victory and secure the Plate. The win was sealed with a miracle shot from behind a tree, landing close to the pin and setting up the decisive moment. The winners can be seen on the left with the runners up to the right.
A huge thank you to Haywards Heath Golf Club for presenting a brilliant venue to host the well awaited event as well as all of those that came and supported the clubs as well as our sponsors of the event, Wellesley . We look forward to another year of fierce competition and class golf next year.
