Pyecombe host our special match...

Sunday the 25th February saw the men’s 1st team squad take on the South East Group (under 18’s from Kent and Sussex)

This was hosted at Pyecombe GC (Thankyou) one of the few clubs that could withstand the relentless rain…. Or so we thought!!!

Format was foursomes followed by singles.

The weather was kind in the morning allowing the 1st team to come out on top at 4-2 up at lunch.

Weather watch was firmly in place as we teed it up in the afternoon.

Unfortunately as the front groups reached the 11th the heavens opened and the match was ultimately abandoned.

It served its purpose though, it blooded some of the rising stars from Sussex and Kent but also served to dust away some winter cobwebs for the 1st team.

Notable performances across the board makes my decisions as Captain ever harder as to who to select from a tight knit squad when we play our first fixture against Kent in May.

It was great to be hosted and made to feel so welcome by pyecombe and its members and staff.

This will hopefully become an annual fixture.

Next up Portugal!

Warm weather training. It is training and not a jolly.

The commitment from the squad to date has been second to none and I’m really pleased as to how it’s shaping up.

4 intense days of world class coaching will sharpen up that wedge play!

Hopefully I won’t have to have a face like this in Portugal…

Whats exciting about this year?

This year as I have mentioned previously is the 125 year anniversary of Sussex County Golf.

As such Sussex is hosting the prestigious 6 man tournament at The Dyke GC in early July.

11 counties will be sending their 6 finest golfers to battle 36 hole medal (rather them than me
