The Sussex U13 team took on Surrey and Kent on 12th August at Sweetwoods Park GC for the Triple Shield. This event is played as a triangular match off scratch.

Many of the Sussex team have had very busy golfing calendars over the past 2 weeks but some of the team were already practicing at the club when I arrived at 09.00 for a 10.20 start! That’s dedication for you!

After 9 holes, Sussex were looking very good against Kent but the matches against Surrey were very close and there was nothing between the 2 sides.

As the matches began to conclude it was very tight and not a clear winning side between Sussex & Surrey. The boys all played well and there were some extremely well fought for points!

With the final match in the points were added and Sussex and Surrey both had 33 points, however, Sussex had amassed 13 against Surrey whilst they had only managed 11 against Sussex. Kent did not fare so well and finished with 6 points

Sussex was able to lift the trophy for the 1st time since 2007.

I would like to thank all the boys for turning out for the match and giving me, Ben Knight and all the parents something to be very proud about.

The team was Joe Sullivan  Captain (Chartham Park), Billy Groom (Worthing), Zack Bacon (Ham Manor), Olly Dickman (Cuckfield), Joe Sykes (Ham Manor), Alfie Simpson (Goodwood), Josh Dance (Cottesmore), Ben Lapthorne (Chartham Park), Josh Greig (Cottesmore), Johno Beadles (Goodwood), Bradley Jones (Nevill), William O’Halloran (Goodwood).
